The teaching, divided into two parts, deals with architectural theory in the first part through a series of lectures on the main exponents of the modern movement. The first part wants to convey a method of research and analysis of the architectural principles that guide the genesis of the project. The second part deals with architectural composition through design practice.

Learning Objectives
Through the investigation of architectural projects of the modern and the contemporary, the student will have to develop the ability to understand the meaning of the architectural space, its size, the relationship that it establishes with the context and the motivations of its time. The proposed architectures will be, according to function or character, preparatory to the subsequent educational objective, or to provide the student with a design method that seeks not the form, but principles that guide the composition of his project related to type, landscape and time, time intended both as a memory and as contemporaneity.

Teaching Methods
Teaching is carried out through a cycle of lectures and laboratory activities in the classroom where the actual design activity will be carried out with drawings and models. .

Type of Assessment
The final exam will take place through discussion of a project proposal for the entrance to the archeological park of Villa delle Grotte Maximum useful surface area 200 square meters Functional program:• Ticket office• Educational workshop for small groups• Arrangement of the external area including identification for a parking area for emergency vehicles and handicapped persons. Compared to the excavation plan it is desirable not to exceed the height of an above-ground floor (max 5 meters from the altitude of 47 slm) The project will be discussed during the exam through a 10-minute presentation and with a series of papers presented on 60X60 cm format tables. The tables can be freely composed but must contain at least the following documents: • Insertion of the project in the context (technical drawing or photoplan) at 1: 100 scale • Insertion of the project in the area of the archaeological park on a 1: 500 scale • Plants (all levels) in 1: 100 scale or 1:50 scale • Sections (at least 2) in 1: 100 scale or 1:50 scale • Elevations (at least 2) on a 1: 100 scale or 1:50 scale • Exploded view on a 1: 100 scale or 1:50 scale • Photomontage on the project area • Report of about 4000 characters including spaces • Optionally additional documents can be inserted (eg perspectives, renderings, route plans, architectural details ...)
